What are Kingston DTVP-M and DT4000-M? |

Kingston DTVP-M and DT4000-M are high speed, USB 2.0 flash drive (also called pen drive, flash drive, usb key, memory key, memory drive). They feature total, automatic, 256bit hardware based encryption of all data providing 100% Data Security and 100% Data Privacy.
All DTVP-M and DT4000-M drives MUST be managed by the Central Enterprise Management Console (SafeConsole or SafeConsole LITE), giving you full visibility, control, policy and auditting of your flash drive resources..
The onboard, non-bypassable security processor encrypts all data copied to and from
the device using certified AES 256bit CBC encryption technology.
Encryption is totally transparent and requires no software installed anywhere. Simply plug it in, enter your strong password and starting using it.
DTVP-M and DT4000-M provide 100% FULL encryption and management. All files, folders and sectors are encrypted automatically - nothing is left to chance or user error. |

Yes.
Kingston drives MUST be assigned to, and activated by your SafeConsole before they can be
used.
SafeConsole LITE is currently FREE
with all new purchases of 25+ drives.
SafeConsole is a feature rich web based application that you install in-house, which allows you to manage hundreds of thousands of drives wherever they may be in the world.
SafeConsole and SafeConsole LITE can also manage original Blockmaster SafeSticks AND SafeStick Supersonic.
With SafeConsole you can KILL lost sticks, backup data automatically and reset forgotten user passwords.
SafeConsole provides full Windows Active Directory integration (although AD is NOT required), management, assigning of different policies depending on OU group membership, changing of password policies, remote reset of passwords, auditing, data shadowing, reporting, disabling, wiping of sticks and much, much more.
With SafeConsole you can also Backup your users DTVP-Ms and DT4000-M drives remotely, lock down your PC's to only accepting certified drives via "Lockout" Port Control, Easyshare (share individual files with a temporary PIN), File Publisher across the WAN and Autorun management.

What are StickApps? |
|
StickApps are a collection of useful Security and Productivity apps which can be deployed automatically to all your organisations DTVP-M's and DT4000-M's. All apps are centrally managed, configured and removed.
Current apps include anti-virus, password / identity theft manager, VPN Client, Skype™, Web Browsers, IM Client, Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Office tools and more.

Why do I need an encrypted USB Memory flash drive? |
|
Tens of thousands of unencrypted USB memory drives are lost, misplaced or stolen each year.
Unless your data is encrypted it is incredibly simple for anyone to view, remove and share ANY of the data that was stored on it.
There have been many high profile, embarrassing instances recently where company employee details, patient details, bank details, customer databases, credit card details and other confidential information has been retrieved in this way and either distributed or used for criminal purposes.
If your company does not lock down removable drive access, and insist on data being stored on an encrypted devices they are running a huge security risk. |

Does the password recovery / password reset use a backdoor or secondary password? |
|
Absolutely not.
Unlike other solutions there are NO backdoor or secondary fixed passwords which allow access to DTVP-M or DT4000-M.
Password recovery is certificate based and one-time-use passwords are generated as long as procedures are followed. Password recovery can ONLY happen one time, on one stick that is was generated for. Codes are NOT replayable / reusable. |

Do the drives feature anti-virus / keylogger technology? |
|
StickApp Anti-Virus is a unique, on-access virus scanner specifically for all Kingston Managed Drives. Always on active shields protect DTVP-M and DT4000-M from infection. You can perform manual scans of host PC's, files and folders at will, and it includes will Keylogger protection (for when your drive is inserted into an un-trusted PC. |

Can DTVP-M / DT4000-M block the Conficker / Stuxnet Worms? |

Should I Disable Windows Autorun. |
|
Absolutely. With 3 out of 4 standard USB drives infected with worms which can spread automatically via Windows Autorun, it is absolutely critical to disable Windows Autorun. We also have a free tool available to enable DTVP-Ms to run when Autorun is disabled. <more> |

What is EasyShare and how do I deploy it? |
|
EasyShare is a feature which allow you to share individual files - currently up to 16Mb - with somebody by providing a 4 digit pin code.
This means that you can share individual files, without giving the person your password which would provide full access to the drive.
You must activate, manage and deploy EasyShare for select users via SafeConsole. |

How does DTVP-M / DT4000-M compare to cheaper encrypted sticks? |
|
Many other encrypted memory sticks - for example some cheaper models available from Hypertec, Integral, Sandisk, Lexar and others, rely on software encryption (plus other insecure features) which is simply NOT secure.
Also several other "high profile" units have also been cracked. for example the McAfee MXI stick has been cracked, as has the Secustick.
Many other vendors "secure" drives have been hacked - included Sandisk's Cruzer, Verbatims and other "most secure" FIPS offerings! Read more.

Is there a timeout / lock feature? |
|
Yes. Using the system tray icon you can lock access to the device instantly, or you can set a timeout period - just in case you forget and leave it inserted into a PC. |

What happens if the user loses a stick or forgets their Password? |
|
If the stick is lost then the data is irretrievable - UNLESS the SafeConsole Backup feature was in use.
If the password is forgotten then there are two options.
- The stick can be reset, which permanently wipes all the data
- Using the Enterprise Management Software a company IT Department can use challenge / response to remotely reset the password as required and as pocily dictates.

What Sizes / Capacity are available? |

Currently 2GB to 32GB for the DTVP-M. The DT4000 is available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB versions. |

Windows 2003 and 2008 are not officially supported and no warranty or other support is available on these as they are server platforms. However Softek testing has shown them to work if necessary. |
